Special Focus on: Hemp and Nettle Fabrics

As always in its collections, OPI[MO] advocates for environmental sustainability by integrating eco-friendly research fabrics. In the new Spring/Summer 2024 collection, in addition to Sensitive, the brand’s distinctive fabric, Opificio Modenese has used 100% natural fabrics such as hemp and nettle.

We have created our garments with four types of natural fabrics: “Raw,” 100% hemp; “Light,” 88% hemp and 12% cotton; “Natural,” 100% nettle; “Sporty,” 70% Tencel and 30% hemp.

Let’s take a closer look at these fibers:

Hemp:

Hemp is a versatile plant and is used in various industries. In textiles, hemp fibers are obtained by processing the outer fibrous part of the plant stem. Thanks to its thermo-insulating and breathable properties, fabric made with hemp has characteristics similar to wool, keeping cool in summer and warm in winter.

Nettle:

Nettle is an herbaceous plant. Its fiber is shiny, durable, and 100% biodegradable. Since ancient times, nettle has been used for textile purposes in creating fabrics.

Tencel:

Tencel is a fiber obtained from wood cellulose through a chemical process aimed at sustainability and energy saving.

Opificio Modenese garments are entirely made in Italy, starting directly from the cultivation of plants. Our supplier grows these plants, harvests them, and creates the yarn. Subsequently, they produce the fabric. Ancient looms are used to weave them. Hemp and nettle fabrics are very valuable and 100% sustainable.

We at OPI[MO] hope that this special focus on hemp and nettle fabrics has been informative. Let us know what you think on our social media channels Facebook and Instagram.
