Made-to-order fashion: the new FW26/27 collection by Opificio Modenese

by Opificio / Monday, 07 September 2026 / Published in Blog
moda su ordinazione

There is a moment when a brand decides to do things differently. For us at Opificio Modenese, that moment is now. With the Autumn/Winter 2026/27 collection, inspired by Italian craftsmanship and its deepest values, we have chosen to change the way we produce — not just what we produce.

No stock. No warehouse full of unsold pieces. No waste. Every garment goes into production only when it is ordered, made with care by hands that know the craft, and shipped directly to the person who chose it.

Why made-to-order for our ecommerce

The traditional ecommerce fashion model works like this: pieces go online, stock is produced in advance hoping the market will respond, and then you wait. What does not sell ends up discounted, in storage, or worse, destroyed.

This is a different model from traditional retail through physical stores, where production follows the scheduled fashion calendar and quantities are defined based on orders received from the sales network. But even there, the logic is to produce before knowing with certainty how much will actually sell.

For our ecommerce we have chosen a different path. The garment does not yet exist when you choose it: it exists because you chose it. It is made for you, in the time needed to do it well, and it arrives at your door within 7 to 10 days of ordering. There is no deadline to order: when a piece is in our shop, it can be ordered. When you order, it goes into production.

Producing one garment at a time, as orders come in, allows us to do something that would not be possible with an outsourced mass production system: control every phase directly. Production takes place within our own company — it is not commissioned to third parties. We know who does what, in what conditions they work, and to what standard every single garment is made. This is not just a quality choice — it is an ethical one. In an industry where the production chain is often opaque and long, we choose transparency and direct responsibility.

It is slow fashion, in the best sense of the word.

The theme: Italian craftsmanship

The FW26/27 collection is a tribute to Italian craftsmanship — to that culture of doing things well, by hand, with care, with an aesthetic sensibility that is in the DNA of this territory. Carpi, where Opificio Modenese was born, has been one of the most important centres of Italian textiles for decades. It is a place where the relationship between design and production is close, direct and artisanal.

This collection carries that culture into the fabrics chosen, the construction techniques and the detail of every garment. Cotton worked with sartorial precision. Jacquard with patterns woven into the structure of the fabric. Soft and fluid viscose jersey. Cotton and wool blend for the warmer pieces. Sensitive® Fabrics, the technical fabric produced by Eurojersey in the province of Varese, for those who seek comfort and practicality without sacrificing elegance.

The new collection pieces

Cotton pieces: craftsmanship as a starting point

Cotton is the fabric that best tells the story of Italian craftsmanship applied to fashion: natural, resistant, workable with precision. The cotton palazzo trousers — available in beige and powder pink — have a soft and fluid line, with a regular waist and wide leg. Elegant without being rigid, they work for the office as much as for leisure. The cotton midi dress with V-neckline and waist belt — also in beige and powder pink — has wide short sleeves, front pockets and a removable belt that allows the waist to be personalised. A versatile piece, designed to adapt to many occasions.

Sensitive® pieces: technical comfort for the cold season

Sensitive® Fabrics is not just a summer fabric. Its elasticity, breathability and crease resistance make it suitable for the cooler months too, especially in pieces that require freedom of movement and ease of care. The Sensitive® palazzo trousers with elastic waist are available in red and black — two colours that perfectly capture autumn. The Sensitive® square-neck bodycon dress, with wide straps and a midi silhouette, is a formal piece that requires no ironing. The Sensitive® midi dress with front draping has a V-neckline with draping and long sleeves: fluid, feminine, suitable for both the office and the evening.

Jacquard: when the fabric is already a work of art

Jacquard is the fabric that best represents the concept of Italian craftsmanship applied to fashion: the pattern is not printed, but born from the interlacing of threads in the weave of the fabric. It is a process that requires technical expertise and precise machinery, and the result is a fabric with a depth and three-dimensionality that no print can replicate. The jacquard blazer with asymmetric closure in black is the most structured piece in the collection: classic lapel, feminine and elegant line, asymmetric closure that breaks the symmetry in an unexpected way. The short floral jacquard jacket is more playful — the all-over multicolour floral pattern makes it a statement piece, to be paired with neutral garments to balance its personality.

Viscose and wool blend: softness and warmth

The draped viscose jersey top — in grey and tobacco — has a draped neckline, long sleeves and a fitted line that flatters the figure without marking it. Viscose jersey is soft, fluid and light — perfect for the first part of the cold season. The wrap waistcoat with asymmetric cut in cotton and wool blend is available in three very different colours — camel, mauve and acid green — which tell the story of this collection’s chromatic freedom. The blouse with teardrop neckline and bell sleeves in powder blue and powder pink closes with a romantic touch: the high neck with teardrop opening and the flared sleeves give it a delicate and refined character.

How to purchase

Choose the piece you like, select the size and colour, and place your order. The garment goes into production. Within 7 to 10 days of ordering, it arrives at your door — made specifically for you, not pulled from a warehouse. There are no deadlines for ordering and no limited quantities: pieces can be ordered as long as they are in our shop. Shipping is free for Italy.

A choice that carries meaning

Producing made-to-order means accepting to work at a different pace from fast fashion. It means giving up the convenience of ready stock to embrace a more responsible model. It means that every garment we produce is one that someone truly wanted — not one of many that might or might not find a buyer.

For us it is a natural choice, consistent with who we are and what we want to do. Slower, more conscious, more respectful fashion — of the work of those who produce it, of the materials used, and of those who choose to wear it.
