Export USA is a consulting firm created to assist businesses in all stages of the internationalization process, sales, or export to the American market.
Here is an interview, conducted by Export USA, with Gloria Trevisani, the founder of Opificio Modenese:
In 2018, Gloria Trevisani, founder of Opificio Modenese, decided to enter the American market after years of experience in the industry and a personal journey born out of a pressing need: to rebuild and create something beautiful after the Emilia earthquake.
Gloria, when did the Opificio Modenese project begin?
The idea came after the 2012 earthquake in Emilia. I felt that I had to do something for my land, to transform that sense of loss into a purposeful project. That’s when the first capsule collection was released in 2015. In 2018, we met Export USA: there, we realized that the brand could be attractive to the American market, and we started considering the idea of exploring it.
How did you make yourself known in America?
By participating in Anteprima Pop Up, which allowed us to test the New York market for a brief period alongside other Made in Italy brands.
We also found a showroom and a PR office for representation. That’s how Carrie Underwood ended up choosing one of our dresses, giving Opificio Modenese huge visibility abroad.
Have the USA influenced your “way of doing fashion”?
A lot! Since we started selling in America, our garments have been purchased by very different women, in very different stores and contexts. This has meant that today, when designing collections, our focus is even more on researching shapes and themes that can appeal to these diverse customers.
“In the USA, it’s still a work in progress, and I don’t feel qualified to give advice, but I can say that the market is so vast that it offers opportunities for anyone with a dream and ideas. Also, relying on consulting firms like Export USA, which guide businesses through this process, helps to navigate and choose the most suitable path. Try and persevere!”
— Gloria Trevisani, Founder of Opificio Modenese.
